Bignose Unicorn Tang - Small

The Bignose Unicorn Tang is a large species that makes an ideal centerpiece for a large reef or fish-only aquarium. They have light blue-grey color and, as adults, have a vibrant blue patterns around the face. They are one of the larger species of tang seen in the aquarium trade and can reach 18" or more. Like other tangs, these fish are omnivores. They need plenty of algae and other greens in their diet to keep them healthy, but will eat small bits of meaty foods as well. Algae can be provided in the form of Spirulina, dried marine algae on clips as a frequent treat, or through live algae grown in the tank or in a refugium. Tangs are generally community fish and get along with most other tankmates. They do not bother corals and can actually help keep nuisance algae trimmed and under control. Tangs may become territorial and aggressive towards very similar tankmates or tangs from the same genus, so always use caution when keeping these fish together.

Archer Fish - Small

Archer Fish are brackish water fish that inhabit coastal waters in their native range. They are silverish fish with large eyes located close to the mouth, and a series of large black blotches on the upper half of the body. The belly is lighter, and juveniles usaually have yellow areas between the dark markings. The fins are tinged with yellow, and the dorsal and ventral fins have black tips. Archerfish are famed for their ability to "shoot" insects down by spitting little jets of water. They travel in "shooting parties", and will all shoot for the same prey, and rush to be the first to get it when it falls. Archer fish also capture prey by leaping out of the water and grabbing it from its perch on an overhanging leaf or stick. Though they can reach a maximum size of about 15 inches, they rarely exceed 10 inches in captivity. They can be kept in community tanks with most other large brackish fish. Archerfish will accept most flake and pellet food and should be treated to some live crickets 1 or 2 times a week.

South American Leaf Fish

South American Leaf Fish

South American Leaf Fish

South American Leaf Fish

The South American Leaf Fish is one of the best examples of camoflauge by mimicry. The flattened body, mottled coloration, and slow movements of this fish make it look like a leaf floating in the water. When a prey item like a small fish or invertebrate swims by, the Leaf Fish lunges and sucks in its meal. The Leaf Fish should not be kept with small fish like tetras, livebearers, rasboras or similar fish as these will most likely be eaten. They can usually be kept with larger peaceful fish or in a tank by themselves to spotlight their unusual behavior and appearance. Live foods like small feeder guppies, ghost shrimp or brine shrimp may be needed at first to trigger a feeding response but some Leaf Fish may be weaned onto frozen foods in time. They will not usually accept flakes or pellets. Planted aquariums or aquariums with lots of artificial foliage are best to help this fish act most natural.

Glo-Fish

Glo-Fish

The fascinating Glo-Fish has been genetically altered to give off a bright neon glow. The genes of this Zebra Danio have been altered with the genes of a certain anemone that features the illuminescence, and that is how the Glo-Fish came about! Glo-Fish were originally altered to a bright pink color, but now green, yellow or orange fish are also common. Please contact the livestock department when placing your order if you have a color preference. The Glo-Fish is just as hardy as a regular Zebra Danio and also features the same bluish striping. They are an active fish that will hang out around mid-water or upper water level. They are great for community tanks. Feed them a varied diet of flake, small pellet, and occasional small-sized frozen food. The glowing coloration of the Glo-Fish will not fade or change - it is within their genetic structure and will actually be passed on to their offspring should they spawn. To see them "glow" at their best, keep a strong light on them for most of the day and then replace it with a black-light at night.
