Rope Fish
The Rope Fish is a long slender fish that resembles a length of rope. It is dark brown to olive-gray in color with a white belly. A black spot marks the pectoral fins. The Rope Fish is a nocturnal predator that feeds on crustaceans, worms, and larvae. It can be trained to accept prepared meaty foods with some time and effort. It inhabits heavily planted areas. This fish can be sensitive to cooler temperatures. It is also delicate when acclimating to a new environment. Once it is established, however, it is normally quite hardy. It has the interesting ability to gulp atmospheric oxygen from the surface of the water. This enables it to survive in poorly oxygenated waters. Rope Fish are relatively peaceful fish that can be kept with any community species it is unable to swallow. It can also be kept with other rope fish. It is an excellent jumper, so be sure to provide a tight-fitting lid to prevent it from escaping.
